What We Really Want.
In this video here the late Steve Jobs talks about customer experience. The fundamental point he makes is that customer experience should drive the design of the product, as opposed to development for the sake of it. I believe this product is partly responsible for Apple being so successful. Apple’s technology has been impressive but it stands out for being something you want to use. When using an Apple product they want it to feel intuitive. Android phones may match the iphone when it comes to the specs, but when hold an iphone you know how it works. Apple can make a device with one button on it and have it be a better experience than any other design. Many of the issues with the release of ios 6 could be seen as a step away from this philosophy. When apple made a new mapping software they were answering a problem that nobody had, and in doing so made the user experience worse.
